Country Garden with a Naturalistic Planting Scheme

We undertook this project in the scorching heat of summer 2018. The main challenge was hard ground and very dry conditions. We’re proud to say that not a single plant died!! Solid chalk has pros and cons with good drainage but poor nutrients. We improved the soil conditions by adding lots of organic matter. The plants we used were quite hardy, perennials and grasses and of course we watered, watered and watered some more.

The overall look was quite stunning - the naturalistic planting scheme was in harmony with the space and setting. The customer brief was for “block planting” and by grouping plants together we achieved a highly structured yet, in places, extremely informal feel with abundant year round interest.

Rough budget: £5-8k including all planting, material and labour.
